3.4.3 installer for macOS broken

Just downloaded 3.4.3 to MacOS. When trying to open the file I get a funny message
It stops its install an says “no archive system to activate”
What is that?

Sorry I don’t know an answer. I use MacOs Catalina, have installed Vassal numerous times including v3.4.3 and have never seen this message. I found one unanswered thread on Reddit of 3 weeks ago with someone experiencing the same trying to install some other app. They were on the MacOS BigSur beta.

What version of MacOS are you on?
Have you tried installing any other software recently?

Mark

Yes. I’m on Big Sur too. So maybe that’s the problem.
I’ll wait for the next version!

Thus spake MartinAlbeck:

Would you describe exactly the steps you’re taking? Maybe post a
screenshot of the problem?

J.

I downloaded VASSAL 3.4.3 and 3.4.4 on Big Sur beta 9 (and Catalina 10.15.7) and other than the usual Gatekeeper issue with the signing certificate I had no issue getting it to open.

In Danish, but it states that I cannot open the disk image (no archive system to activate)

Same error with version 3.4.5

  1. Download the VASSAL-3.4.5-macosx.dmg file
  2. Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/)
  3. Type in (without the quotes):
    "md5 "
(the last character is a space)
  4. Drag-and-drop the dmg file onto the Terminal window. Then press return/enter.
  5. This will calculate the hash of the downloaded file, we can compare this hash to my file:
MD5 (/Users/bdegroot/Downloads/VASSAL-3.4.5-macosx.dmg) = 059d33dbdc903c292e3987a2af8b17b0

If yours is not the same the download was not successful.
