A Victory Denied (AVD) - Revealing VP chits

My opponent and I have just completed a PBEM game of AVD and want to figure out who won. I selected the VP Chits and selected Ctrl R to reveal on each chit. When I right click on the chit again it says Unlock - Waiting for (Axis), but it is greyed out. When I send the file to my opponent, he gets the note saying waiting for the Soviet.

How do we get the VP values to show?

Thanks.

Hmm, what you did should work.

The exact sequence of steps you should have followed is:

  1. Neither Axis nor Soviet player has retired their position.
  2. Axis player makes a log file recording the Ctrl-R Reveal of the chits
  3. Axis player sends this log file to Soviet player
  4. Soviet player replays log file through to end
  5. Soviet player reveals the units partially revealed by the Axis player.

If you did these steps in exactly this order and the chist are nor revealed, then there is a bug in the custom code I will need to look at.

Regards,
Brent.

Hi Brent,

I (Soviet) tried to reveal first. Maybe that caused the problem. We will try it the other way and let you know what happens.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Order shouldn’t matter, one goes first, then the other. Just make sure you actually record the first person revealing and send that to the second person who must replay it before they try and reveal it.

Sorry Brent,

Still no luck. Can I send you a vlog file to look at?

Jeff

Hi there!
I`ve online played AVD with a friend using VASSAL 3.1.13 and AVD 1.5.

Unfortunately we have the same problem and can not turn any VP Chits.

Any news about this problem?

Best,
Peter

Hey There

I am the guy Peter played the game with.

Any news on this problem?

Greetings,
Daniel.

BTW: Thanks very much for creating this otherwise great gamebox.

Did this ever get resolved? I had the same issue last week. :frowning:

Playing with v. 1.5

Hi there,
we had the same problem playing online AVD 1.5 using VASSAL 3.1.14.
Revealing chits doesnt seem to be possible. Because of this you cant play this GREAT game using Vassal. :frowning:

Best,
Peter

I think I figured it out. First one player must reveal a piece, and then the opponent must also reveal that same piece. I think.

Yes, from the memory, that is the way it should work.

One thing Vassal does not handle very well is information that needs to be concealed from both players, but revealed to both players at some later stage.

AVD uses a custom trait that attempts to do this. Either player can apply a ‘Lock’ to the trait which prevents access to traits below it. Both players must release the ‘Lock’ in turn in order to gain access to the underlying traits, one of which is a Layer trait with an Activate command to reveal the hidden information.

I have uploaded a Version 1.6 of the AVD module that includes a ‘How to Use this Module’ Help entry that describes how to use the Victory Chits.

Brent.

Muchos muchos gracias, Brent. It’s a very fine module. I enjoyed using it quite a bit!
