Adding an older version of VASSAL

I want to run an older version of VASSAL (3.5.8) to play a game (Verdun 1916 Steel Inferno) that doesn’t work with newer versions. But I don’t want to delete my current version and all my modules in the process.

I’m using a Mac, and in the forums I saw a comment “On MacOS, simply rename the older app so you can distinguish it from the newest one.” So do I rename “VASSAL 3.5.8 DMG” in my downloads folder to something else? (before I double click on it to drag it to my Apps folder?)

Removing a version of VASSAL does not delete your module files. Only the application.

No, you want to rename the application itself, not the disk image (.dmg) that installs it. After downloading the disk image and opening it you’ll see this:

Follow the instructions at the bottom–drag the big VASSAL icon to the right and drop it onto that Applications folder shortcut. This will copy the application into your system’s Applications folder. Once that’s done, you can go into your Applications folder and rename the application to VASSAL 3.5.8.

Thank you so much- it worked!
