I’ve downloaded the Battletech modules several times in an effort to work, yet every time I try to open them, I get a “Insert file here is not a valid VASSAL file.”
I’ve tried re-downloading, deleting and replacing, all to no avail. Am I missing something with the modules?
I’m simply trying to open the modules after moving them to my Battletech folder.
Here’s the step-by-step process:
-Open Vassal
-Click “File”
-Click “Open Module”
-Choose File (ie, Strategic Operations)
-Receive the following error message:
–“The file ‘C:…\VASSAL\BatteTech-StrategicOperations.vmdx’ is not a valid VASSAL module.”
-Get angry and step away for a bit…
If I try to import, the message is effectively the same, except it says "Cannot Import ‘insert file here’ "
That is because BatteTech-StrategicOperations.vmdx is not the module - it is a
module extension. Modules have the file type .vmod not .vmdx
Once you have opened the correct file (the actual module) in the manager you can
then right click its name and select the command “Add extension” - that will
then bring in the .vmdx extensions underneath the associated module
This is all explained in the user guide which can be found here in pdf format
