custom coordinates

Hi all,
I would like to design a new module with square tiles map in wich the coordinates are like this:

Does any one knows how to design this ? I can implement custom java classes if needed, but I am really inexperienced with VASSAL.
I would like vassal to track moves with this coordinates. eg: move AB-42 to AB-43…

Use multi zone grids. Define each zone (AA, AB, BA, BB etc…) and add rectangular grids to each zone . Define the report as $CurrentZone$ $gridLocation$
