Error Message on sign in

Dear folks,
I just downloaded the newset version of Vassal 3.1.13 onto my Mac with the OSX operating system. I get the following error message when I load the program by clicking on the Icon:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: /Users/jamesmccann/VASSAL/Preferences (No such file or directory)

at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(EventDispatchThread.java:122)

The program still loads, but I am having difficulty on occasion of synchronizing with other players. Don’t know if the two issues are related.

This seems really odd.
I don’t get anything like this when I run version 3.1.13.

I assume you downloaded the VASSAL-3.1.13-macosx.dmg file and then
just moved the application to your hard drive, right?

Do you even know a jamesmccann?

VASSAL asks your operating system for a ‘home directory’ to use to create a directory store the Preferences file in. Your system is returning ‘/Users/jamesmccann/’ as the home directory. There has been an error creating the VASSAL directory or the preferences file and the Preferences file does not exist. You do not seem to have sufficient access rights to your own home directory

  1. Does the directory /Users/jamesmccann exist on your system?

  2. Does it contain a VASSAL directory? If not, what happens if you try and create one manually? If it does, what happens if you manually try and create a file within it?

I suspect it is a permissions problem on your system, and hopefully some of the Mac people on the list can help you further.

B.

Sounds to me like a permissions problem with the preferences file.

When posting an error log, please include the initial section that displays the VASSAL version, Java version etc.

Thx,
B.
