I love vassal, but with our panoramic 16:9 screens having the log, server controls, and other above the board is inconvenient as it forces you to scroll up and down or reduce it to a very small size. If a map is vertical format, like Fire in the Lake, it is even worse. It would be easier to detach those screens and have them somewhere else, or to be able to snap them wherever they fit better, like for example to the side of the board window, instead of above.
It is something we have discussed before, but it would be a BIG project to retrofit a proper docking interface.
However, you are able to detach the main map to a separate window by unchecking the ‘Use combined application window (requires restart)’ preference. I think this will give you a lot of what you want.
