Freedom in the Galaxy

Hi everyone.

I’m an old fart who is trying to learn how to use Vassal to play Freedom in the Galaxy. I’ve managed to get through to Start Game, and the controls window opens so that I can click on the various boxes such as Possessions, Charts, etc… but there is no game map in the window. Can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong and help me to find the game board so that I can start a solitaire game?

Check whether the divider between the chat pane and the map is dragged
all the way to the bottom of the window.

Alternately, you can open the module, go to File->Preferences and uncheck the box that says “Use combined application window”. Then close and reload the module. This will force map windows to open independently.

With the latest Java update I’ve noticed that sometimes the map part of the window will not show. The chat will fill the window and there will be no divider control. I need to show/hide toggle the Server panel (or other panel) to refresh the window and have the divider control show at the bottom. Then I can drag it up to show the map part of the window.

Wow! Thank you, guys, I’ve got me a map! Unchecking the box was the answer. Now, with a bit of concentration, maybe I can slowly work out how to play a solitaire game!

I’ve been hoping for years that someone would bring out a computer version of FitG. Thanks to everyone involved…
