Graphics error

Hi Men,

This problem just started and just on random modules. I reinstalled vassal and Java with no change. The same modules show same problem.

Thus spake “jab5450”:

Please answer all of these questions so we can help you:

  1. Which modules?
  2. Which version of VASSAL?
  3. Which version of Java?
    $. Which operating system?
  4. What is your max heap set to for these modules? Is it different for
    modules where this doesn’t occur?

  1. C&C Ancients and Alexander at Tyre (Connquerors:Alexander was having this problem but after loading the game several times its working fine now).
  2. beta5
  3. 6-10
    4a. 512 b.No

After testing many mods its still just these two.I’m pretty sure its somthing with my PC but its strange its just these two.Have had no problems before now.

Later and thx

FYI,
I opened C&C Ancients and Alexander at Tyre using Vassal 3.0.17 and both work fine.

Thus spake “jab5450”:

I’ve looked at C&C:A 3.1 and Alexander at Tyre in VASSAL-3.1.0-beta5 and
VASSAL-3.1.0-svn4514 on my Linux system and can’t reproduce the problem
you’re seeing.

For C&C:A, the maps are tiny, so I’m sure this isn’t an issue with running
out of memory. The version of Java you have is the current public release
from Sun.

Is this problem something which happens no matter what you do when you
load these two modules? Does it happen after a particular sequence of
interactions?

(BTW, I love the legend in the lower-left corner of the Alexander at Tyre
map, with such helpful entries as “Triangle”, next to a yellow triangle.)

Yes It happens no matter what I do.The strange thing is both mods were working fine until a few days ago.

Yes,“Alexander at Tyre” is a good game but little known.IMHO.

Thus spake “jab5450”:

What OS are you using?

Vista thats why I say I think its my PC some how. Now, I don’t think its vassal because there was one mod that was giving same problem but now is not.

Thx 8)

I’ve noticed on the modules that have this problem, that I can zoom in to full mag and it goes away.Zoom out and it returns.
If this is any help.

Later…

Thus spake “jab5450”:

Could you try both 3.1.0-beta4 and 3.1.0-beta6 and tell me if either of these
exhibit the problem for you? I want to try to track down at what point since
3.0 this started.

I’m using Vista.

Thats what I did .I backed up to 3.0.17 and it works fine. Then tried beta4,5 and 6.Same results (zoom in its ok)But like I said before these mods were working fine with beta 4 and 5.Also sometimes the map goes black and white and becomes about 1/4th its actual size then I get the the screen I posted above.

Thx…Later

Thus spake “jab5450”:

Are you using the current version of your video drivers?

Yes

Hi there. I’m new to Vassal, but I’m getting the same sort of problem with Ghost Stories. I’m also on vista.
The best display that I get is when I zoom all the way in on the game board. Even then, there’s a bunch of overlapping text in the top areas.

Good luck on fixing the bugs!

What version of VASSAL are you using?

I created the Ghost Stories mod with the beta version, so if you are using 3.0.17 or before you will have problems.

Download the beta and try the module with that.
