How can I figure out the number of players?

I want to access to actual number of players, because of some game parameteres depends on it. Can it be done?

The number of players isn’t exposed in any Global Property, although it would be simple to get that number with some custom Java code.

Thank you for reply. But I have no any expireince in java programming. Could you post sample code for calculating number of players, and exposing it into VASSAL module.
