invalid module

When I go and try to open a module I am getting a message saying that it is not in the right format. I don’t know what I am doing wrong or a way to fix it can someone help me…

its obvious what is wrong - lack of information produces lack of help

How about providing:
Which module you are trying to open?
What is the module’s file name (including extension type i.e .zip .mod .vmod etc)?
What version of Vassal are you using?
Using a Mac or Windows or Linux - OS Version?
Provide details step by step exactly how you are trying to open the module.

Then someone should be able to help

Could you tell us exactly which file you are attempting to open and exactly what the message says?

SWminis_ext ; extramaps10.mdx

3.1.14 version using

running windows

I have no idea what an MDX file is. And what is that to the left of the semicolon in your message? Is that two files or one. Neither appears to be a VASSAL module.

Swminis_ext is the folder that the extramaps10.mdx is in

mdx is the old file type for a Vassal module extension (now .vmdx or .vext Ive seen)
Module extensions are never opened by using open command. You always open the base module.
Extensions must be loaded into the module manager by right clicking on the base module and selecting “add extension”
This will load the extension properly for use with module. Now when you open the base module (in this case SW Minis) the .mdx module extension will automatically load with up with the base module
