Was 3.2.17, trying 3.3.2
(build 1.8.0_261-b12)

All running fine under 3.2.17

Was working fine with previous version (3.2.17), downloaded new version after prompt at startup. (Incidentally your web site shows as ‘Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead’ on Firefox due to ‘MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_SELF_SIGNED_CERT’).

tried starting it - a big fat nothing - tried updating Java, still a big fat nothing. Nothing appears. All broken.

Took it back to 3.3, still big fat nothing.

Took it back to 3.2.17 and everything worked again apart from the annoying popup that tells me to download the whizz bang new version that unfortunately doesn’t work.

Thanks for any info.

Thus spake GrumpyOldMan:

What URL was it that gave you that warning?

tried starting it - a big fat nothing - tried updating Java, still a big
fat nothing. Nothing appears. All broken.

Java is part of the Windows bundle now. V3.3 won’t use whatever Java you
have installed (or not installed). Updating it or removing it or anything
else you do the Java you have installed will make no difference.

Took it back to 3.3, still big fat nothing.

Are you running some antivirus software? We’ve had some reports of AV
software swiping files VASSAL needs to run.

In particular, please check the jre\bin directory under the directory
in which VASSAL 3.3.2 is installed. Do you see files called javaw and
java there? (Or, if your file browser isn’t hiding extensions for known
file types, javaw.exe and java.exe?)
