Looking for a Patient Individual to Help Me Understand VASSA

Hey Guys,

I’m new to the site, and am not what you would call computer savvy…I’m wanting to play Napoleon’s Triumph, and have not been able to figure out how to do so. I found an opponent, and he wasn’t able to guide me there either.

Is there a “cheat sheet” of “how to start from absolute scratch with absolutely no idea of what you are supposed to do, or how to do it” available out there anywhere?

If not, might someone be interested in being my “scout” and leading me through the mysteries and the maze that I find when trying to figure out how to start a game…etc.?

Would really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Will Green

Hi Will,

Welcome to Vassal. If you look on the Help menu of any module, you will see a User’s Guide that explains how to use Vassal modules in general. It will give you instructions on how to load and start games, use the controls, and play, either live, by email, or by some other means.

(The guide won’t give specific instructions on how to play the Napoleon’s Triumph module, but it will cover just about everything else.)

Hope this helps.

Hey Mycenae,

Thank you for this suggestion. I just went to the module, and then clicked on Help. What came up was the Help page, yet the only information was one single word in the window. Naturally, the word was “help.” There were no other options, info or ways to access any other suggestions for using that module.

I tried it three times, and each time the same one-word-window appeared. What should I see? How can I get to be able to see it?

In advance, thank you again for your continued help.

Cheers,

Will

ps Are you interested in ancient Greek history?

You’re looking at the web site. That’s not where Ed was telling you to look.
You’re supposed to be looking in the Help menu in VASSAL the application.

You can also check the VASSAL wiki. I recently posted the reference manual
and user guide there.

I’m in the same boat. Is there still a tutorial module?

MHopcraf~

This may help…it helped me start playing:

Be sure to download VASSAL and teh most recent module of NT.

NT’s module is here: vassalengine.org/wiki/Module … 7s_Triumph

The trouble with MAC’s is that they “help” you by seeing that the VMOD file is a zipped file and append .ZIP to the file name. After downloading, you need to make sure it is saved as: Napoleons Triumph v0.4.vmod

To open the module, you first launch VASSAL which brings up the Module viewer. Then using FILE - OPEN MODULE you point to the desired module to bring it into VASSAL. Going forward, it should appear in the Module viewer and you can just double-click it to launch.

There are NO set rooms. Games are set up by mutual agreement between opponents. Once on the server, you create your own room and play the game there. (You can also wait in the such a newly created room hoping someone stops by wanting a game. That usually works better if you post on CSW or other site that you are waiting in VASSAL for opponents.)

Finally - you can communicate with you opponent via texts, but having a VoIP (eg SkyPE) makes it a much easier communication.

Also, go to the User Guide, page 14 tells you how to play online.

Hope that gives you enough to get started.

Cheers,

Will
