Minimum Requirements - LnLP World at War,VG Flashpoint Golan

Hello gang.

I release that my system is getting a bit long in the tooth, but I am receiving heap size and out of memory messages when attempting to load these two titles. I do not have much trouble with older modules in the past.

I’m running a P4 2.53GHz, 2.52GHz 512MB RAM.

Am I just SOL?

Thus spake “pmaidhof”:

To what do you have your max heap set? (Check the preferences.)

Which version of VASSAL are you using?

Uckelman,

Vassal version 3.1.10

Heap size varies, I’ve tried 512, 1026, even 256…all with similar results.

Thanks

If you only have 512 megs of Ram, you’ll may run into several mods that won’t run as they may be too graphic intensive.

Thus spake “pmaidhof”:

Consider upgrading to the current version, 3.1.14.

You shouldn’t set the max heap to be larger than the amount of RAM you
have. If you can’t get it to work at about 350MB on your machine, then
you’re unlikely to get it to work on your machine with 3.1 at all.

3.2 will be quite different in that regard—you should be able to load
any module on your machine with 3.2.

Thanks Uckelman and Dr_N,

I downloaded and installed 3.1.14. I set minimum and maximum heap size to 512, and ran Flashpoint: Golan’s mod 1.1. I got both messages again about heap size and out of memory, although I had about 80% functionality which I did not have previously. I had access to the counters and game tracks. There was however, no map image.

You mention that v3.2 will clear up much of these issues, I suppose by running more efficiently? While it may not be the time or place to ask, is there an ETA on v3.2?

Thank you again,

Pete

Thus spake “pmaidhof”:

The map image is the only thing which needs a significant amount of memory.
If you’re running out of memory loading it, that means that you’ll have a
lot of free memory after loading the map fails.

I can’t give you an estimate of when it will be ready, but finishing 3.2
is next after moving to the new web site, which will happen today or
tomorrow.
