New Deck not working with Save File

  • Mac Pro (Mid 2010)
  • 10.11.4
  • 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Cor Intel Xeon
  • 16 GB
  • ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
  • Vassal version 3.1.16 (but the problem also occurred in the most recent previous version)
  • Java version: Oracle v8 Update 77 build 03
  • Vassal module: beta build for Fatal Alliances 3
  • Exactly what steps are required to reproduce your problem:

Not sure if this is a bug or whether I am missing a command to force a refresh/update. I created many decks to hold stacks of counters for various unit types. Each deck is designed to provide random drawing of counters during in-game production. After creating the decks I then loaded the counters into the decks. All functions worked – return to deck, random draw, and specific draw. I saved the setup (.vsav) file. The setup file worked fine with the existing decks.

I then had to create some more decks for additional chit draw pools. However, the new decks will not function properly with the .vsav file – the counters will “return to deck” but they do not stack like they are in a deck and neither the “draw random” nor “draw specific” functions work with the deck. The only way I can get the deck to function properly is to start from a new game. I do not want to lose the setup I created since it has over 1000 counters sorted into existing decks.

Is there a command I am missing that will force the game to refresh/reload to make the newly created deck function properly with the .vsav file?

Thanks for any help/advice.
Carl

The problem you’re having is that the saved game was created with an
old version of the module. You could try using the saved game updater,
which is in the Player under Tools > Refresh Counters. Be sure to keep
a backup copy of your saved game when you do this, until you’ve verified
that the updater has done what you wanted.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to verify that the problem does not seem to be related to the version of the module – if I understand your response correctly. I went through the process of creating new decks again with a new .vsav file and the problem still persists. I can’t add new decks and have them work correctly with an existing .vsav file. Refreshing counters does not fix the problem. The only way I can get the new decks to work properly is to start as a new game.

Any further insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
