Newer version?

I have Vassal version 3.2.2 on my iMac. I now get a message every time I open it that a newer version, 3.2.11, is available. When I try to download it, it leads me to install software that I don’t want.

Why is 3.2.11 newer than 3.2.2?

Do you have some kind of an infection? I am not computer literate, but I know what doesn’t look right.

This indicates to me that you’re not downloading VASSAL. See below.

Why is 3.2.11 newer than 3.2.2?

The short answer is: 11 > 2.

A version number is not a decimal. The ordering over version numbers
follows this rule:

A.B.C < X.Y.Z if

* A < X, or
* A = X and B < Y, or
* A = X, B = Y, and C < Z.

That is, the ordering is lexicographical across the parts, but numeric
within each part. This scheme is not unique to VASSAL—in fact, it’s
the most common software versioning scheme in use.

I downloaded VASSAL-3.2.11-macosx.dmg just now to check it. The SHA1
was dfe3f3bebca8e4241d4b1e8b2a93d7ff478ea1d4, which is exactly what it
should be.

Could you describe in more detail what you’re seeing?

Do you mean when it tries to install a new version of Java?
