Proxy support

Is there any way of getting Vassal to work from behind a proxy? I am forced to connect through a proxy from where I am and I cannot connect to the Vassal server.

I saw the following thread: test.nomic.net/oldforum/view … 65449dc527

Which had some suggestions about editing the ‘vassal.l4j.ini’ file but this didn’t seem to help at all, I still get ‘connection timeout’ issues, it’s almost as if the file is being ignored completely since it doesn’t change the error message.

Any ideas welcomed!

Thus spake “Destrin”:

I’d like to add proxy settings for 3.2, but I don’t have any way of
testing them, as I’m not behind a proxy myself.

Is pretty easy to set up locally and use to test connections through.

The issue I believe you will find most people have is that not only are they using a proxy, but also that there is a firewall preventing direct connection. So to thoroughly test, you would have to have both a proxy server to connect through and also a firewall to block any external traffic that doesn’t not go via the proxy server itself, which is probably a little more complex to set up!

I’m happy to act as a tester if you need them!

Does the vassal.l4j.ini file exist anymore in the 3.1.x versions of VASSAL? I can’t find it anywhere and I can’t connect unless I specify a proxy.

Thanks

It never existed in any version we’ve distributed, but if you create
one, VASSAL.exe will read it.
