Tried opening VASL 6.5, then 6.44. Both come up with an error “This version incompatible with the version of VASSAL you are using (3.3.1)”.

VASL 6.5 and earlier require nothing later than VASSAL 3.2.17.

VASL 6.6, which is in preparation, will work with VASSAL 3.3.
