VASSAL freezes once I load a module

Dell Precision M2400

  • Vista Enterprise
  • Core 2 Duo T9550 2.66GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • Quadro 370M
  • Vassal - 3.1.9
  • Java - 1.6.0_16 (the most recent version)
  • Through the Ages 2.46 and Combat Commander Europe v2.0 (on GHQ site)
  • I load either of the modules, select ‘find an online game’ and load up the module. Within 5-7 seconds of having the module up, the java window freezes and I cannot do anything.

Well I’ve now realized that the freezing is because I cannot connect to the main server… the program actually stops hanging after about a minute of trying to connect.

This leads to my second problem, however… the fact that I cannot connect. I know why - I’m behind a huge ass gv’mt firewall.

When I try to connect with my brother back home over the internet through port 5050, neither of us can connect to eachother, leading me to believe that port 5050 is one of the ones blocked on my network…

Are there any other ports I can connect to to connect either through peer-to-peer or through the actual core server?
