Vassal on a Nintendo DS !!!

Well,

I consider that if java can run on a nintendo DS … then Vassal could do it too !!

Just look at the homebrew …

blog.davr.org/2007/08/08/java-for-nds/

May be a way to glance and for leisure developer’s time

Thus spake “soft-bug”:

Looks neat, if someone wants to try it. I have no Nintendo DS.

Joel,

I just have tested and it works … (i sware i do not have stolen my son’s DS console !!!)

You only have to select a class file and you can launch it by and user interface …

Now my problem is to do the same with Vassal !!!

If i take the manual installation package 3.0… how to convert this in class files ??? I have plenty of jar files …

Thus spake “soft-bug”:

The JARs are just ZIP files with some extra metadata in the META-INF
directory. All you’d need to do is unzip them. to get the class files.

Ok … do i must respect the file directory breakdown structure ??? or i can put all unzip files at the root ???

If all is unziped what is the first file to launch ???

I have also found :

kineox.free.fr/DS/

The DsLinux operating system …

Thus spake “soft-bug”:

The roots of all the JARS should be merged together, but you must leave
all of the structure within each JAR the way it is.

Awesome, I have a Ds and a flash cart so if anyone wants me to test any files feel free to ask

You are welcome !!!

I’m also a simple Vassal User like you …

Well i join here the file directory picture after the massive unzip process :

(i have a R4 Revolution Flash …)

  1. The Java DS requires a class file as a launcher and there’s nothing like this at the root of the Flash Card

  2. I don’t know if the Java DS can manage a file breakdown structure … because of 1)

I have installed DSLinux … all working (linux) but the wiki say :

Is it possible to run all Linux software?
To port an application, the source code must be available and be compiled as a binary for DSLinux and the DS processor. If it’s a text app that runs under the console you will probably be able to port it but for graphical apps it’s improbable due to memory constraints.

Thus spake “soft-bug”:

How much memory does a DS have, anyway?

Not sure but I know you can buy Ram packs to go in GBA slot, though I think it’s possible to dump the info onto the flash cart, no idea how though :stuck_out_tongue:
