I have seen this a lot. The latest is on my Operation Dauntless module. You open the module and the text window is maximized and the map is missing. I know you hover your mouse pointer toward the bottom and drag the text window up to re-size it and see the map. But is there a way to prevent this problem in the first place?
Thanks
Start your module, open File → Preferences and, under the General tab, you’ll see an option to “Use combined application window”. Uncheck this. Close and reopen the module.
This will force your map to open as a separate window with it’s own task bar button so it’s easy to manipulate the chat window and map independently.

Not that I’ve ever been able to discover. I’ve spent literally dozens
of hours in several bouts over the last decade trying to stop that from
happening. It won’t be that way in VASSAL 4, but no fix for 3.2 is
coming from me. (Patches are welcome, however.)
