Won't Launch on Mavericks

Thus spake grifalco:

Hi Uckelman,
I was running VASSAL-3.2.8-svn8781.
To be honest I do not remember which java version I had,
I think it should be Java 6.something.

It was probably Java 6. I recommend instaling Java 6 again if you’re
running Mavericks and having this problem.

Thanks Uckelman,
I’ll try and I’ll provide a feedback as soon as possible.

Hello!

I’ve been trying this version as well and in my opinion svn8905 is marginally better than svn8901 but still very sluggish compared with 3.2.8, Java SE 6 and OS X 10.8 unfortunately. However it does feel tough going backwards since Java SE 6 isn’t supported by Apple anymore. Any other way to solve this issue?

My setup is a iMac 27" (2009) with 16 GB RAM so no Retina here. The module I’m running is World in Flames 6.39 so it’s a rather large module but I have increased the Java stack size to 2 GB.

The workaround in this build turned out not to address the problem
completely.

If you’d like to help, you could load a module with this build in
Java 6, do something with the module, and then copy the errorLog.
Then restart VASSAL with Java 7, load the same module and take
the same actions as before, and copy the errorLog again. Post both
errorLogs here.

Back after a long time,
I was about to uninstall Java 7, something I need to understand how to do…, anyway I found the new Vassal 3.2.9 released and I installed it.
Vassal 3.2.9 is better that the previous, I can play Hammer of the Scots but I still having troubles with Command and Colors Napoleonics. With CC Napoleonics I have a delay when dragging elements on the screen: I click on a unit then drag it, the unit does not move with the mouse cursor, I have to wait a couple of seconds and then it moves.

ciao

There shouldn’t be any difference if you’re using Java 7 for both, as we
changed nothing in our graphics pipeline. My guess is that you’re using
Java 6 for 3.2.9, but you were using Java 7 for 3.2.8.

There’s something quite broken with graphics rendering in Java 7 on
some Macs, and it’s not something we’ve found any way to work around.
If you’re having poor graphics performance on with Java 7, then use
Java 6 instead until Oracle fixes their bug.
