150MB Module Size Limit

Hello all,

I am curious about the file size limitation of 150MB for Vassal modules hosted here. Is this due to a limitation in Java, by chance, or is there another reason for this limitation. I ask because I am working on a module that may exceed this limit.

I do understand that it is easy enough to host the module elsewhere. However, the size limit has increased several times over the years and I had wondered what the driving force was behind it. Thanks for any insight, I appreciate it.

Best Regards!

The biggest module I have in my list on Vassal currently is 360mb, it’s not one you’ll find hosted here. I’d guess it’s just a limitation with the wiki software and/or hosting cost related.

Thus spake Chrompe:

Neither of those is the reason.

When we set the file size limit, we found that in almost all cases,
modules above the limit contained enough unused images that with the
unused images removed they were under the limit, and that in the few
cases where that wasn’t so, we were happy to handle the upload
manually.
