A Victory Lost - Missing Activation Chits

I downloaded the latest version of A Victory Lost and the Axis and Soviet Chit Selection boxes are grayed-out. Is there a solution to this?

Which of the modules of A Victory Lost did you take:

  • AVL-v447b.vmod, or
  • AVL-v447b_solo.vmod?

In the first module, you need to be either the Axis or Soviet side to enable those two toolbar buttons. In the second, if you are Solo, both buttons will be enabled. In both modules, when you are <observer> none of the buttons are enabled. Use the white flag toolbar button to choose active side.

In general, the <observer> side can only, well, observe, and thus specific actions may be prohibited to that “side”, although it is not a hard-and-fast rule enforced by Vassal - rather it is a convention. Some modules may define a Solo or Referee side that has all the privileges of all other sides, but again not a hard-and-fast rule.
