AppData/Roaming folder

I’m having problems with using VASSAL on my work laptop. Apparently the university I work for has a limit of 200Mb in the user AppData/Roaming folder. The VASSAL tiles folder uses way more than that with only a few modules installed. Is there any way to get all the App data to go onto my C: drive in some other folder instead of the user roaming folder? Currently, the system doesn’t allow me to log off until I clear out the folder.

My IT support person, who fortunately is a board gamer and didn’t give me grief, said that if we can’t change the install preferences he would have to set me up a secondary user profile and I could log in and out of my main profile when I wanted to use VASSAL. He apparently can’t increase the data limit.

Thanks,
Mike

I’m pondering what to do about this presently. I suspect that the
simplest thing will be to make the config directory be settable from
the command line.

I’ve noted this problem as Bug 12193:

Try the VASSAL-3.2.16-svn9184 build, available here:

vassalengine.sourceforge.net/builds/

You should be able to set the path to the VASSAL config directory using
-DVASSAL.home=/path/to/config/dir as an option when you launch VASSAL.

Does that work for you?

I have Windows 7 Prof. I am finding that I need to move my AppData\Roaming\Vassal folder from my C drive to D drive, as it is taking up 13.5G of data I don’t have on that drive!

Can you spell out exactly what I need to do? I have 3.2.15 at present. Do I install the 3.2.16 build shown above and how exactly do I divert the path - sorry if I’m being a bit thick.

Since I master Vassal modules for other players, will using this build cause them any problems when I release a version built with it?
Just trying to get back into control of my computer!

Clear your tile cache to free up space. I’m not sure it’s possible to
relocate app settings folders on Windows.

OK - thanks!

That is making a massive difference!!

Clearing the cache has removed the source for Win7 complaining at me for months!

…I can now play some stress-free games
