Can't Access Saved Game

Playing Storm Over Asia Module 1.4. Can’t access a saved game. When I attempt to open, it says my side is already taken (my opponent’s side is already taken too - I can only join as an observer). From other threads, seems like a password problem is likely involved, but strangely, I’m able to access other saved SOA games but not this one.

Where is this saved game? Is it one you saved? One you downloaded?

I can’t access either the previous turns’ files saved on my C drive or the file with his turn that my opponent just sent me. Both send me back to the setup wizard to choose a side and say my side is already taken.

Where are the saved games on your drive? What are the exact steps you’re taking to access them?

Screenshots are helpful.

Save files are in “Documents” under a folder for the game (C:\Users\jerry\OneDrive\Documents\awaw\chris).

To open the file, I double-click on it, which launches Vassal and takes me to the setup wizard and asks me to choose a side, but won’t let me choose the side I’m already playing. Screenshot below.

There are many lines of inquiry. I assume you haven’t knowingly changed your personal module password at any point, so my questions are:

  1. Did this issue crop up suddenly in an ongoing game?
  2. Have you or the opponent ever used a 2nd computer to conduct plays (e.g., you normally play from your desktop but used a laptop or work computer to create a file at some point)?
  3. Are you or the opponent involved in other games with different opponents using that same module–is there a possibility that a file from a game with a different opponent was accidentally saved/shared at any point?

If you are able to join the Discord channel and share any of these recent saved game files, I would be willing to inspect their contents and figure out what player passwords are in use and if there are any issues on that front.

  1. Yes. At one point everything worked and I could access all my saved files. My opponent sent me his turn. I tried to open it and couldn’t. And suddenly I couldn’t open any of the previously saved files from the same game either.
  2. I have not, but I think that my opponent’s PC crashed and he did switch computers recently.
  3. I am involved in another game with a different opponent using the same module, so this is also a possibility.

I’m not sure how Discord works. Can I send you a recent saved game file by email or another means?
