If I’m playing a game Vassal automatically uses my real name (I don’t know where he gets it from). I was wondering if it is possible to change the ingame name to a nickname. And how do I do this?

Sure. While the module is open, go to File → Preferences - Personal tab. Change what’s showing in the “Name” box.
