Currently, modules default to ‘Use Combined Application Window’. I’d like to see an option where the default can be deselected, and modules default to ‘combined windows’off. 6x9 monitors work much better with the control window on the right (or left) side of the screen - makes for a more square, and more usable map window.
Better yet, make it an option for a combined window to have the controls along the right/left edge, instead of on top. That’s more work, so maybe in the future.
Eleven years later. I still stand by the opinion that with a 6x9 viewport, map viewing is more natural in a square viewport. Can we at least implement a docked side window? It’s very clunky resizing windows in Win11, because of the way windows snap now.
BTW the reason things are the way they are is because when vassal was designed, most monitors where 16x10. A 16x10 adds additional height, making a monitor more functional for maps. The only reason 16x9 took over was volume manufacturing from TV sets.
A docking window would solve all of this, and I suspect it’s easy to implement.
Proves my point more. 4:3 is even more square. I know you know this, but there are a lot of young people out there that have never even seen the old hardware.
