Computer crashed - lost password for side

Hi All, I’m hoping a practitioner of the “dark arts” can help.

Right at the end of an online game of Bloodtree Rebellion (home made module). my opponents computer crashed (unrelated to Vassal he was trying to setup a dual boot system and corrupted the boot records for Windows) but during the subsequent restore he installed Vassal again and then tried to guess his password when he logged into the online game. No success. Unable to go back to the original disc as he thought all was well with the recovery and had wiped the partition. My Vassal opens my .vsav file fine but can’t select the Guerilla user as it’s in use.

Could anyone take a look at the latest .vsav file I have and let me know the password for the Guerrilla side or both sides passwords if its difficult to tell. I can DM a link to the .vsav file

Alternatively if there’s a way of editing a copy of the file to view the password, can you give me some pointers? I used to use “edlin” on DOS back in the day, so I may be able to cope looking at a file, but I’m not a programmer.

Although I don’t think its relevant the current Vassal and module versions are:-

Vassal 3.7.20
Bloodtree Rebellion 1.40

You can DM me the link to the file. You are correct that VASSAL version and module version aren’t relevant for this task. There is no way to get user passwords out of the file directly in plain text–a saved game or logfile’s contents are obfuscated. The technique for extracting it is not widely publicized for hopefully obvious reasons.

I won’t be able to do it until late tonight.
