Several years ago there was an issue with disconnection from the Vassal game server. This was fixed by using a ‘keep alive’ thingy’.
Last year (or perhaps a bit earlier), the Vassal game server got updated/renewed/refreshed/changed.
Now players are being disconnected from the server. Sometimes multiple times per game session.
VPN is off. Vassal error log has ‘keep alive’ sent entries.
So what has happened that even the ‘keep alive’ thing fails?
Also, different topic altogether, why is the error log called an error log? This log records EVERYTHING, not just errors. How about renaming this log to ‘System Log’?
I’ll see what I can get. Problem has been happening for a while now.
Since the virtual machine is but a young thing, could that be a root cause?
Once the ‘keep alive’ signal was introduced there were many happy years of no disconnections. The difference between that period of good and this period of not good may well be the one change - the VM or the system it runs on.
As an aside, losing the server connection still leaves the user logged into the game. That created another issue as I was the game host and Vassal would not let me log back in.
