Downtown Modules (yes, all) not working for me

I have VASSAL 3.1.6 running on OS X and I’m trying to play the Downtown module. However, none of the Downtown modules on the site are working for me. Every one of them crash on launch (don’t even get to a splash) except for 3-07. However, 3-07 even reports that a long list of image files are missing. I can’t even load up the map on the tutorial.

Am I the only one having problems with this? Can someone point me in the right direction?

I should also point out that I’m not having problems running any modules for the other games I have.

Thanks!

Well, it loads pretty much instantaneously for me, even with the RP4
map option added.

I do notice that this list of Bad Data and missing images is there:

  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found DRV-plain.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found DRV-bg.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found DRV-Su-7.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found DRV-Mirage.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found DRV-AS-5.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found DRV-Generic.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found Initiative.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found US-plain.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found circles.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found EWRBase.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found null
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found sam-warn.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found sam2.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found sam3.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found sam6.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found Moved.png
  • Bad Data in Module: Image not found phase25.png

So, it seems that there are some things missing. IIRC, this used to
be a silent error that now gets reported.

Anyway, it seems to work for me. I think that you should post at
least the first few lines from your errorLog file. It will be in the
“Vassal” folder in your home directory. For example, it would help to
see:

You should also tell us about what kind of Mac and which OS version
you are running this on.
Is it an Intel mac or PowerPC (PPC)?
Are you running Tiger (10.4.x) or Leopard (10.5.x)?
How much RAM do you have?

Also, I’m not sure what you mean by not loading up the map on the
tutorial. Do you mean the Vassal tutorial?

I’ve uploaded 3.08 to the site, taking care of the missing images.

Let me know if you run into more problems.

I didn’t abandon this topic. =)

I appreciate you guys helping me out here. It seems that the new 3.08 module doesn’t give any sort of errors, but no map shows up for me when I load up the game (neither Vietnam or RP4). Also, it seems a background graphic from the Game State Window does not show up.

So, no errors on startup, but now no maps. Hmm…

I have an 2.17 GHz Intel MacBook running OS X 10.5.7 with 2 GBs of RAM.

When I speak of the tutorial, I mean the Downtown tutorial. It is one of the options when I launch the game via the “wizard” (New, Load, Look online, tutorial).

Well, I’m getting the same problem.

And now I’m also not seeing the map in the old 3.0.7 version, which
used to work.
– correction. It still loads the map. But very slowly.
At least one other modules are is also not showing its map. (Ambush!)

Other modules are displaying slowly (OCS Tunisia)
And some appear fine (Silent War).

The only real change in my setup is that I (perhaps foolishly?)
installed Apple’s Java update. There have been some other reports of
weird issues with Apple’s latest Java release. Sigh.

I suppose I could try it with Java 1.6 instead…
Nope. No change.

Thus spake Thomas Russ:

a lot of stuff.

Otherwise, I’m not in a position to troubleshoot. (BTW, you never did send
me the other profiling information I asked for, which is what I need in
order to locate the problem.)
