The most likely problem is that you have a corrupted download. Try
downloading the installer again.

I’ve tried three times. even tried to just download just the installer from the file package

From what URL are you downloading?

J.

sourceforge.net/projects/vassale … source=dlp

Thus spake Medic23:

sourceforge.net/projects/vassale … source=dlp[1]

That’s the URL for our project page at SourceForge. I’m asking
about the URL of the file you downloaded.

J.

vassalengine.org/download.php

then clicking the windows option…

sourceforge.net/projects/vassale … hivelocity

which in turn DLs the file from

downloads.sourceforge.net/projec … hivelocity

Ok. You have a correct link for the file you’re trying to download.
Have you checked the MD5 or SHA1 hash of the file you downloaded
against the hashes stated for that file on the downloads page?

sourceforge.net/projects/vassale … SAL-3.2.9/

(The hashes for a file are shown if you click its ‘i’ icon.) In this
case, the hashes you should have are:

MD5: 45508feda789e3b1a377d40ac741be5f
SHA1: 7c2ba3a9dac75f17748da33818fb886ea2585f4f

All i’ve done is just clicked through the links.

You can get a Windows utility for computing file hashes here:

download.cnet.com/MD5-SHA-Checks … 11445.html

The point of doing this is to check whether the hashes of what you
downloaded match the hashes of what you were supposed to download.
If the hashes don’t match, then you have a corrupt download and should
try downloading again.
