Long time board and computer wargamer, looking to play newer titles using Vassal. Willing to start a learning game with almost any title, even if I have to get it and study the rules (which I did most recently for GMT’s Normandy 44). Primary interest is WWII and American Civil War operational/strategic.

Are you looking to do live or PBEM?
PBEM. I am reliable and responsive, sometimes doing multiple turns per day. I have a PBEM computer game where we’re in our 10th year.
I’m up for a PBEM game if you don’t mind a bit of a slow pace—a turn or two a week.
Thank you! I’m game (pun intended). What game–Normandy 44–and scenario? Would appreciate guidance how to get it started. Also, safe to provide email addresses in this forum?
Kurt
I’m also new to vassal online play and enjoy Civil War and WWI Games.
Let me know if you are interested.
Curious, what’s the game?
The game is War in the Pacific: Admiral’s Edition (https://www.matrixgames.com/game/war-in-the-pacific-admirals-edition), with the one day per turn setting. I’m working on turn 1,426 right now for 1 Nov 1945.
Going longer than real life because, strategically, both of us planned for a “long war”. As the Japanese, I husbanded supply, fortified the home islands, and did rational aircraft R&D. The Allies were cautious early on and now planning to execute the initial invasion of Japan (Operation Olympic). Just did the math. This is a turn every 7-8 days. It’s particularly hard for the Allies now because they have so many units, especially aircraft transferred from Europe.
I’m interested! Did you have a game in mind?
So you’ve actually played this same scenario for ten years? Like, from a game starting date of December 1941 until now, November, 1945? (Or maybe the game allows for an earlier starting date?)
Do you have any reservations about cheating - as in, your opponent replaying turns?
I have the game, but I’ve never played it.

I usually play live using vassal & Discord. If you want to try Discord I can walk you through how to use vassal. Any module you want, unless there is some really weird features we can figure it out.
At least for showing you around vassal live with voice works much better.
I have played GMT’s Stalingrad 42 a bunch of times, but never PBEM
I am finishing up making (modifying an older version actually) the vassal module for Revolution Games ‘Shiloh the First Day’.

Correct - playing the campaign scenario, which starts 7 Dec and can go, theoretically, to 31 March 1946. So, yes, my game has taken significantly longer than the real war!
No opportunities for cheating. After both sides plan their turns, the “day” is executed by the computer and players see a “replay” before planning your next turn. There is definitely a game steep learning curve. In addition to the hefty manual, there’s a dedicated WitP forum with almost 35,000 topics and 1 million posts.
Kevin - thank you very much. I envisioned and have traditionally done PBEM, but could entertain a live Discord+Vassal session on a weekend.
Erdayo - your thoughts? And we need to pick a game.
I’m retired, so good almost any time.
If you’re familiar with the Combat Mission games, by Battlefront, is it similar to that?
Absolutely no chance for an opponent to cheat by replaying their turn?
(Sorry for hogging this thread, I know this wasn’t the thing you came here for.)
Correct - much like Combat Mission, with no chance to replay the turn (although you can watch the replay multiple times).
Cool, this might just entice me into actually playing this game. I’ll have to head over to Matrix and start reading the forum for this game as well.
Thanks!
(BTW, to quote text in this forum, simply highlight what you want to quote and select “quote”.)
Thanks Kevin.
Sorry for the long delay in replay but I just figured out PM’s in the vassal website
I would love to play.
I will have to find the rules to the game and study a bit.
feel free to email me at kf5rzg@gmail.com to set up a game
