game pieces

Hi,

My computer literacy is poor, I will try and explain my problem.

I’m running a mac book (last white model I think?) at the end of it’s life and it has 1GB of memory.

I use VASL all the time and I have no problems.

Recently I used VASSAL to play a couple of small scenarios from GB2, and they worked fine but the big module game my computer a work out. At the time my opponent recommended that I increase the initial heap, I have to 600/612. Also I have been turning off Safari etc.

When I set up the 5.3 scenario the system decided to wig out and several of the game pieces showed up as grey squares with a capital H inside them.

I scratched my head about it a bit and went back to playing ASL.

Now I am trying to set up another OCS game, Tunisia this time v a mate in Hawaii. Some of the set up pieces are doing this again.

I suppose I could label the pieces as a fix and soldier on, only playing the Kasserine scenario anyway so that might work. But I think it would still be awkward.

Has anyone experienced this problem, maybe my old computer is knackered.

Thankyou to anyone who can shed some light on this for me - me and computers…

Cheers,

Dale DRAKE.

You’re probably exhausting the heap. Increasing your initial heap won’t
help with this. You need to increase your maximum heap—but you likely
don’t have much headroom to increase that when you have only 1GB RAM.
I’ll bet you can’t go much above 768MB max heap with your machine.

Cheers mate, could be time for a new computer.
