I am interested in helping with play testing.

Before you get too involved with this, check out the World Wide Wargamers (“3W”) game called “Aces High”
I found it to be VASTLY superior to Richtofen’s war, with the only drawback being movement plotting (for simultaneous movement)… but that doesn’t really get too bad, because typically aerial battles of that era involved only one to a handful of planes on each side (while there might be separate actions happening at different levels over the same terrain – the fighters involved (attacking or defending) an a photo recon plane at 10,000~15,000 feet won’t be interacting with some trench strafing mission happening at 300 feet nor even a bombing mission at 2000 feet.
This redesign doesn’t have the flaws that RW did. It uses initiative to decide order of moves adding pilot skill to the roll. It has 2 movement phases regular and ace as your pilot gains skills more movement moves into the ace phase. It avoids the need for plotting by using unused movement as defensive modifiers. Players can fire their guns anytime they expend a mp or change facing or their opponent does in their move. You can even fire each hex moved but your chances of a jam go up!
16 maneuver cards rated by skills if you want to use a maneuver 1 level higher you risk spinning the aircraft. I own aces high my design is an improvement on that system! I also own wings knights of the air red baron SPI game. Flew Red Baron and Rise of flight for a combined 25 years!
Richthofen’s War had 5 turn modes RBW has over 20 including pusher rotary effects! Scenarios are historical with real pilots rated for gunnery, flying ability, luck just to name a few!
Also the design folds into GMTs Bloody April/ Eagle of Lille allowing operational meeting engagements to be fought tactically!
I also own Aces high! My design is much better!
