How to center pieces in the hex

How do you get your pieces to center in hex? In this case, the unit is allegedly in hex 1704.

All that shows is the hex grid in the map image itself. Without seeing the configuration of the hex grid (if any) defined in VASSAL, I’d guess it’s shifted and not lining up with the hexes in the image.

Either the defined hex grid does not match the printed hex grid as Joel said, OR, snapping to hex centres has not been turned on in the grid.

Well, silly me. I never actually clicked on the “Hex Grid” heading. It appears that unclicking the “Snap to defined point” box takes care of the problem.
