Is it ok to modify a module for personal use?

So I downloaded a module recently and it’s very well done, but I found a couple minor annoyances that probably wouldn’t bother most people but bother me. I was able to figure out how to “correct” them so they don’t annoy me anymore, but it got me wondering if that is allowed, or if a module is simply supposed to be used as is and if there’s an issue you should talk to the module owner?

Just don’t want to step on any toes or break any rules.

If you modify a module you have downloaded for your own personal use, there is nothing wrong with that, and it would be invisible to everyone else anyway. If you decide to share it in the library, follow the guidance at Welcome to the Module Library.

If your changes are things that would be generally useful improvements, you might speak with the owner of the module about incorporating them.
