Less perfect and tidy counter placement?

Most of the modules I’ve played have the counters on the board placed absolutely perfectly, that is the sides of the counters are at exact 90 degree angles to up down left and right. While that is what what a lot of people might want, to me it looks just a bit too clean and perfect. Part of the appeal of boardgames is the physical, non computer aspect Examples given in rules booklets often have slightly untidy counter placement in the illustrations. It’s how almost all boardgames are played. Few players are too concerned with 100% clean and tidy counter placement.

Not looking for some board layout that looks like it was played by a drunk guy but a subtle almost unnoticeable variation in counter placement on the map would add a little bit of of human “warmth” to the Vassal gaming experience

Well, the only thing that comes to mind is Styx’s Mr Roboto.

Thank you, thank you,
Mr. Roboto.
For doing the job,
No body wants to do.

(Insert new lyrics here).

Flipping the counters,
On a stack of twelve,
With only a pair of tweezers,
That must be hell.

TY,TY Mr. Roboto.

Just had a thought.

When playing the actual game, most players place a piece of plexiglass over the map. When the counter are added you get some sort of paralax effect.
The counters are never perfectly lined up unless you have your head tilted just right.

I tried to recreate the effect by placing a piece of plexi over the monitor.
About to join the Failed Army.

You obviously never heard of Leo Zappa.

The Lock and Load Tactical steam edition has an option for this. I usually leave it off, but sometimes it does give you more of that “at the table” feel.
