Loading Time?

Hello, I’m a newbie to vassal, and I downloaded the program (already have the latest java runtime), and it takes about 10 minutes to load the program, anyone know about this problem?

Thus spake “xshade”:

What version of VASSAL are you using?

I’m not sure, probably the latest (I downloaded today), 3.0

Thus spake “xshade”:

Would you mind checking?

Are you saying that it takes 10 minutes from the time you launch
until the time you can start loading a module?

version is 3.0.17
and it takes 10 minutes from opening the batch file until the main screen shows up, same goes from the browser launch option

Thus spake “xshade”:

What OS are you running? What processor? How much RAM?

Is everything else working properly on your computer? It takes just under
3 seconds for me to see the initial windows after I start 3.0.17.

I’m running Windows XP SP2, an old P4 3MHZ, 512MB ram, ATI9550 graphics card.

And there are no other problems, hmm maybe it has something to do with the java runtime? because in those 10 minutes the javaw.exe process take about 50% CPU usage and 40MB of memory.

Thus spake “xshade”:

That should be adequate.

Based on what you’ve told me, this is not a problem with VASSAL. It
sounds like there’s something wrong with your installation of Java.
Do you have any other Java apps which work properly?

just tried a random java application and it loaded instantly.

edit: just checked the java runtime settings and a certein option (find runtime) seems to have caused the same thing to the java control panel, the window just freeze and my guess is that it will unfreeze after several minutes, yeah, probably a java problem

Thus spake “xshade”:

Look for a file called errorLog in your VASSAL directory. If might
not exist, but if it does there might be a clue there about what’s
happening.
