More fonts for Text labels

Before, it was possible to use a font like ‘courier’ but it is no longer available.

My home made WW2 era labels look better with a font like a vintage typewriter and look all wrong with the modern computer style fonts.

Can this option be restored?

What was the last version of VASSAL where you see courier?

I think it might have been VASSAL 3.2.8. I think the problem started when the legacy Java SE 6 runtime stopped working with VASSAL. VASSAL 3.2.10 onwards do not have courier font type

It’s only a cosmetic issue, but it just looked nicer.

More fonts would be handy. I’m too new to vassal modules to know any better than the four we have at the moment. As a workaround, I have overridden the Text trait attributes with html in the text label itself. To specify a different font, for example, try this:

Ah, you’re talking about the fonts which Java provides, then. We don’t
control those—though we were also surprised when they changed. There’s
nothing we can do about this, so far as I know, as we can’t return to
older versions of Java.

I am to make sure that in V4, we don’t accidentally rely on fonts we
don’t provide.

Fair enough.

Will Vassal 4 be able to run modules written for previous versions of VASSAL?

Not directly, but there will be a converter.

Great - very happy about that. Thanks for all you do for VASSAL.
