Napoleon's Last Gamble OSG module - problem

Hi When i play this module and my opponent counters on the map randomly all disappear while typing and then reappear? Is this a known error or is there an error with my settings? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

This known problem. Some action like hide counters is bind to key

Hope someday author will disabled the shortcut key when cursor in text input line

The module has a keyboard shortcut (hotkey) to show / hides pieces. That shortcut does the same as this toolbar button:

Typically a shortcut uses a control key or similar, but in this case the “H” key is configured do this. This is why, whenever you press that key, the pieces will disappear or re-appear.

I notice that in a related module - La Souffel - the same designer, Andreas E. Gebhardt, has configured the F4 key which seems much more intentional / sensible.

This is the component within the module that causes the trouble:

Sadly, I learn from researching this topic that Andreas passed away earlier this year. As OSG modules are hosted exclusively on LimeyYankGames, I am unsure how to contribute a fix there but I will give it a go.

This is not in a module author’s control. Vassal determines this. I must admit that I’m surprised that the hotkey operates when the cursor is in the text input line but perhaps I misremembered the normal behaviour for a hotkey.

The module author’s best bet is not to use normal keys as hotkeys.

I’ve amended v2.74_NLC of the module to fix the issue by adopting F4 in place of “H” as the Hide Pieces hotkey. This key is used by similar OSG modules, though in NLG it is already used for a “Show Area” piece command. That conflict may not cause much of an issue (certainly better than the current situation), the player just clicks away from any piece to use F4 for show/hide.

For the time being, you may download my patched version here (iCloud account required). I’ve found another contact on BGG who seems to have worked on OSG modules with Andreas, so I will write to him about consolidating this fix into a formal release.

Thank you so much for this…thatvis greatcnews and your efforts are much appreciated

Regards Bruce
