On the browser it loads up fine, with no problems.
Ironically enough, this happened after the transition between 3.0 and 3.1. I already uninstalled and reinstalled the engine twice with no effect, so I doubt its an installation issue.
There’s something badly wrong with the game server, I think. A lot of
TCP connections get stuck in the CLOSE_WAIT state, which I believe means
that the connections aren’t being closed properly from the server end.
I just checked yesterday after learning that the servers have been switched.
Same result with the same message. Interesting enough, I can see what modules are running on Vassal, but I just can’t connect myself with everyone else to said modules and what not.
I think it’s very likely that your firewall is blocking VASSAL. I have
no problem connecting to the server right now.
What OS are you using? If you’re running Windows, it’s possible that
Windows Firewall (which is under “Windows Security Center”, I think)
is blocking VASSAL. If you’re running Linux, I can also offer some
advice; for Mac OS X, you’ll have to ask somebody else. It’s also
possible that the firewall on your router is blocking you. A good test
is to briefly turn the firewall off and see if you can connect then
(but make sure your machine is up-to-date with security patches before
doing that).
In can’t connect either. It is 8:24 pm EST on Wednesday evening in the US. I get the “welcome to the vassal server message” - then nothing. No main room, no nothing.
I’m pretty sure this is not a firewall issue. I’ve been using Vassal for years with the same router and same firewall.
It is, however, a serious bummer. I really don’t want to learn cyberboard…
It’s about 10:00 pm EDT and there are no connections to the server when I check on the web page (www.vassalengine.org) to any games, so I think it’s a server is borked issue…
8:30 Pacific time, and the server’s been “down” for at least two hours (three, if it never recovered after KenC reported). I even got the “Lost connection to server” error message.
We hit some limit on the number of threads (but not the open files limit
this time) again somethime after I went to sleep. I’ve restarted the
server now. It should be good for another 12 or 13 hours now.
For OS, I’m using Windows Vista 32 bit and after reading that it might be Windows’ firewall, I went over to make it an allowed program through both my Windows Firewall and my other firewall. It could be because of my router firewall, but unfortunately, I don’t have access to such things.
I did try just now and to no avail. Same error popped up.
