Several years ago, VASSAL implemented a “Open Recent” menu item under File. We at VASL had particularly asked for this and were pleased to see it done.
Recently I have received some user feedback about the “Open Recent” option:
Currently have MacOS Sonama 14.5, VASSAL 3.7.13, VASL 6.6.9 Beta 4; however these issues have been present a long time.
After starting a new game and then saving it for the first time, the new file name is not added to the “Open Recent” list.
After using the “Open Recent” list to open a file, make changes, and then save the file, VASL does not populate the File Name field with the name of the file that it just opened.
After using the “Open Recent” list to open a file, make changes, save the file, fill in the file name, VASL does not give a “replace existing file warning”.
As well, a “Clear the File Menu” function.
Not sure if these comments are best posted here or over at “Feature Requests”?
I have checked with users and the answer is no, there is no version of VASSAL which appears to have the features/functionality for the Open Recent file menu that they would like. This is not so much a bug as a feature request. IIRC, the two Save Game references in the OP reflect how the VASSAL File menu has always worked.
Try one of the VASSAL-3.7.14-SNAPSHOT-2fd8e37-save-recents builds from the builds archive. That should add saved games to the Open Recent list at the point when they’re saved.
I don’t know what this refers to.
Do you get such a warning when you’re saving over the saved game you opened normally?
