PanzerBlitz 3.7: German Fort Error: Image not found

I’m using Pzb-Pzl37.vmod in VASSAL v3.6.19 on Linux. When I open Panzer Leader situation 2: Omaha Beach, I’m getting three errors for image not found.

Looking at the first error, “German Fort Error: Image not found”, I edited the module and located the German Fort, looked at its properties, and I can see the image file.

GermanFortProperties

I extracted the .vmod into a folder and searched through the images. The German_Fort_40.gif exists in the images folder. It’s not misspelled. The case is correct. I tried removing the GIF and re-adding it, but that didn’t help.

Any suggestions?

The error log wasn’t very helpful:

The missing image isn’t named German_Fort_40.gif–it’s named German Fort. Whatever is referencing that image is somewhere else. The message isn’t coming from the dialog in your screenshot.

I may know what’s going on. The references to the missing images may be in the .vsav start file for that mission. Perhaps the pieces were named one thing when the .vsav file was created and after that the pieces were renamed in the Module Editor. Now the data in the .vsav file is out of date.

Since we can’t yet edit .vsav files, the only way forward I can see is to open the .vsav using the VASSAL module, add the correct pieces for the missing pieces, and save it to a new .vsav file.

Then use the Module Editor to replace the defective .vsav with the newly saved one.

Does that sound like the right approach?

Tools > Refresh Counters might be able to fix up the old pieces for you.
