Hacan will take Assembly
No production this round might change my plans. I’m going to take a few hours to consider things. In the mean time…
Jol-Nar play command summit.
1/3/3 2/4/0 (assuming no sabotage)
Also, curious for future planning… when tech is played, can Jol-Nar use the primary before the secondary? Like let’s say I have automated defense turrets already, and I want to get assault cannon. Can I get cybernetics for free and then buy assault cannon with the secondary?
FAQ Pg 5 “Special Abilities”
q: When the Jol-Nar player activates both the primary and secondary abilities of the Technology Strategy, may he use one of the technologies he recieves as a prerequisite for the other; or does he recieve both technologies sumultaneously?
A: One of the technologies he recieves may be a prerequisite for the other.
SE Rulebook pg 16
The Jol-Nar and the Technology II Strategy Card:
The Jol-Nar player may use his special ability when
executing the secondary Technology II ability in order
to receive one free technology. He may then purchase
a second technology at the cost of 6 resources, and a
third technology at the cost of 8 resources.
From what I’m reading of these:
The order tech is aquired, only matters for the free and 8 cost techs. So you could get a free one, and use tech discounts for the others, as long as the one you are using a tech discount at 8 resources, is not a prerequisite for the free one.
Jol-Nar (has given this a lot of thought.)
1/3/3 2/4/0
Activate 0.0.0
Move from New Albion 1dn w/admiral & 1cv w/ 1f, 2gf
Move from A wormhole space 1dd
Assuming successful space battle, land 2gf claiming the planet refreshed.
I have possible AC at the end of the first complete round of space battle.
1/3/2 2/4/0
I apologize to L1z1x. However, looking at the board it seems obvious that L1z1x was going to take MR this round. If not attacked, L1z1x would have at least 14 resources and 6 influence to spend every round - that’s not counting any trade, a potential refresh of 6 with assembly, etc. I just couldn’t sit back and watch that happen. I assume the consequence will be prolonged war, but I hope there are no hard feelings outside of the game.
Combat resolution and then Muaat’s turn.
I’m gonna join the HS taking bandwagon. As I have mentioned before, our Hylar overseers have imparted much wisdom to us before their reign came to an end.
CCTAP: 1/3/2 - 0/2/0
Activate Winnu HS. Send in Warsun, 4 Fighters, 2 Tanks, General.
If PDS hits, I’ll tank it on the warsun. Bombard planet with warsun, land both tanks and general. (This should be fairly one sided)
CCTAP: 1/3/1 - 0/2/0
Hacan Up!
Saw that coming. I’m quite surprised Winnu didn’t take production - that would have gone a lot farther to helping fight back than a mercinary will…
The idea was:
-
that I was nearly broke. I don’t have much in way of planets, epecially not now, and if you’re gonna try to take out a war sun, you need something fairly significant.
-
He had diplomacy. As he doesn’t seem in a very “Peaceful annexation” mood, it’d be too easy for him to block any effort to retake my HS this turn
-
That, and I suppose most games I’ve played in RL have not been as vicious. When you get together for 8 hours, it’s generally assumed you’d like most people to stay for the entire game, not just for the first 2. I’m not out yet, I ain’t gonna rage quit, but either this has stopped being impersonal and he’s trying to wipe me out, or he got a secret involving taking a HW.
…or both
I’m just curious from a psychological point of view how that’s gonna effect your behaviour in the other game 3 of us are playing
Well, how would you react in a 2nd game after playing 1 with someone that jumped you early on in a previous game? Don’t worry, I’m not a vendetta player. Am I going to run right across the board to try and wipe him out, and possibly ruin the game for the other 4 people? No. Am I likely to trust him as much? You decide. It’s clear though that he favors an aggresive playstyle. In any case, this is a game, it’s meant to be fun. Is that what you were worried about?
apologies, my intention was to play a AC during strategy, and was waiting to see what Jol-nars AC was. If it’s too late I understand
After considering it, I had ample time to play my AC, and simply failed to predict further jol-nar agression.
I’m simply not used to the players of the university being so dang aggressive.
It was a matter of opportunity. The HS was an easy target. I don’t the events of one game against another. Normally I don’t play this aggressively, but the Muat lend themselves to it. If you fortify Elverra, There isn’t much I could do about it. Between the +1 to combat, and extra ships you could build, you could form a formidable defense.
Certainly. But I need more than just defense right now. Of course, we’ll see how that turns out in following rounds. Granted, this isn’t like a live game where an early elimination means being stuck watching others play for 5-6 hours. That doesn’t mean I’d be happy about it, as I said, it’s a game, it’s meant to be fun, and being knocked out early isn’t my definition of fun. But it’s up to you how you want to play, and I can’t hold that against you.
Again, as I said, if one person knocks you out early in one game, are you really going to be 100% unbiased as far as how you react to them in another? I said that I wouldn’t hold out a vendetta in the other one, I’m not out to get you, except maybe in this game. People do tend to follow patterns though, and since I’ve never played a game with you prior, this is the only pattern I have to go off right now.
Yeah, first impressions and all.
Standard practice is to announce your intent. If you want to be more sneaky and not let people know you have an AC that is played in the strategy phase, you should PM the GM and ask him to tell us that someone wants to consider an AC at the end of the status phase.
Now it’s up to JP to decide what to do.
I think in this particular situation, Muuat and I have something in common. I am an opportunist in this game, I enjoy aggressive play but I can be content to keep to myself if my neighbors don’t give me reason or opportunity to attack. I saw my neighbor with amazing planets over extend his fleet, and decided to help myself to some resources - especially since the space around my home world is not as impressive as his. Similarly, Muuat saw the easy opportunity to claim a PO and prelim, so he took the Dal Bootha system. Then he sees a poorly defended 3/4 planet next door and wants that too - I’d do the same thing.
Maybe true. I just hope that this was for VPs, because historically, as far as this game goes, a player who focuses on taking someone out does nothing but drag both of them down. In any case…
Hacan up
Can’t say that I didn’t see this coming.
L1z1x, I’m not going to let you use your AC. You had plenty of time to declare your intention publically and privately.

Hacan up
I had my agent and admiral still on my homeworld. You roll to figure out what happened to them? Any that survive unscathed will be placed in my nebula system.
Not a big deal, but some control markers are missing.
Forgot to post rolls for winnu’s leaders but they both died.
