Switching to the New Module Library

Click a username (the area I circled in blue below). Among what appears in the popup is a prominent button to press to send a private message.

Hi Charles,

  • BBcode stands for Bulletin-Board code which is used by MediaWiki and the Discourse forum. It is not used in the module library.
  • HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language and is generally used in web-pages. It is not used in the module library.
  • Markdown is a simple Mark-up derived from E-mail practises. Markdown is used in the module library and the Discourse forum. Some hints for the use in the forum is given in How to format forum posts, and some links are given in How to upload modules to the Game Library.

@JoelCFC25 give you a pointer to how to make a Private Message (PM) - also known as Direct Message (DM).

Unfortunately, it is not possible to query the module library for projects owned by a specific user - hopefully that will be changed in the future. However, it seems that you are associated with at least

Please check if any of these old pages have been deemed “problematic” in this post

Take Bitter Woods. Currently, that project is empty because it is one of the old pages that were deemed “problematic”. The old wiki page shows that there are at least 3 distinct module designers for that game (you, Steven Bradford & Kevin Graves, and @WGA-Bill_Thomson). Therefore, the project page needs to be split into at least 3 different projects.

The same was true of Afrika Korps which had 4 different implementations. However, that old Wiki page has been dealt with and split into the projects

(I’m co-owner of Afrika Korps only because I did the splitting of the old Afrika Korps page).

If you look at those project pages, you can get a feel for how - f.ex. - Bitter Woods would need to be handled.

Perhaps you want to get in touch with the other module developers on the old Wiki pages, so that you can coordinate how to best split the projects. Just click the “owner” name on the new project pages and then hit the “Message” to send them a direct message. Note, some users seem inactive - which you can gauge from the “last visited” on their user pages - so you may not get a reply

In your Afrika Korps module, you used an Irregular Grid with Regions to capture the hex locations. If you are about to update that module, you may consider to use the custom code ObliqueHexNumbering as done in for example Afrika Korps Classic Avalon Hill and Afrika Korps.

The modules of Decision Games games can be found on Google Drive. As far as I know, Decision Games has indicated that they would like for those modules not to be posted in the Vassal game library, but perhaps someone has more up-to-date information.

Hopefully the above is of some help to get you started.

Yours,
Christian

Napoleon at Waterloo has been fixed. Please strike from list.

Thanks.

I’ve crossed it off. Done.

That’s not correct. The last communication I have about this is from Tim, from 2014, which involves someone having the same confusion. Quoting Tim: “DG has never said anything about us not hosting DG stuff or anything else”.

Searches and browsing are no longer paginated. If you scroll down in the projects list, more will load.

I’m having an issue when I upload a new version of a module. Did all of the Packages\module things and got the select file to upload. Picked my file and then sometime during the upload it just craps out with the error in the image below.

How large is the module?

Module is 70MB.

First time uploading update to an existing module, and I get this unhelpful error message:

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jeff

Check the version listed inside the module. It won’t be 1.3.0.

Looks like you have the version number in the module set to

ver 1.3.0

while the release is

1.3.0

The version number in the module must match exactly the release number, so you should remove the leading ver from the version number in the module. See also Adding a Module to a release.

Christian

That works! Thank you Christian!

Any ideas on the issue?

I’m on holiday at the moment so haven’t had time to investigate. The gateway seems to be timing out. I’d hoped someone would have a useful suggestion about it by now.

I did noticed that the ‘blow up’ happened as the upload was ending. The progress line was basically done, as far as you can tell by just watching it, when the error happened. This was the first time where I stayed at my PC for the entire time of the attempted upload.

I´m probably not the designated designer for the Dungeons & dragons miniatures module, however in 2020 I’ve added quite a few sets to the extensions so people could play with the added miniatures. I’m ready to add some more now. However I might need some help with converting the old module library. Contact can go through here. Thanks.

What we need to know for finishing the conversion of the old D&D Miniatures page is how the modules there should be divided into projects. I can’t tell how many distinct groups have made modules or which modules are part of the same series.

I’m the maintainer of one of the Gunslinger modules, and not sure of what I need to do!

We need you to tell us which modules go together as a series of releases, so we can split the old page into projects.
