See How to Run VASSAL on Android (X11). This will run real Vassal on your Android device. Apple - in its inifinite wisdom :upside_down_face: - does not allow for the same thing, so it isn’t possible to do on iOS.

While that is a great option to have, it doesn’t look like something optimized for a touchscreen interface?

It isn’t optimised for touchscreen, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work with a touchscreen. I actually works quite well, and you know that the Vassal part actually work (as opposed to the A"I" written code that has no such guaranty).
