TiTE module deletes upon computer shutdown

Am using TiTE vassal module from Watchword blog. But every time I shut down my computer, the TiTE module is deleted from my Vassal library, so I have to download the module once again. Please tell me what I have to do to correct this annoying problem. thanks John

Additional pieces of information are needed to diagnose this. What operating system do you use? Where on your hard drive is the module file itself being stored? Is it a different place than where files you download with your web browser are being saved (i.e., are you moving the module file after downloading it)?

Describe your standard process for downloading a module and starting to use it–be as exhaustive as possible.

For example, my procedure would be:

  1. Download a module file
  2. Move it to the folder in my Documents portion of my home directory where I store all modules
  3. Launch VASSAL
  4. File → Open module
  5. Navigate to where I’ve saved it
  6. Module opens and I start using it

My gut says your antivirus may be tripping! It could be seeing the module as a threat, or false flag!

My second guess is that it may be you have two versions of vassal running and it is in a version you are not aware of, that’s a long shot but I can think of ways that could happen to make it gone from the menu or appear so cause it was loaded into another version of vassal!

Perhaps take a look at previous posts with the same troubles. There could be an answer there.

What @JoelCFC25 was fishing for is some more information (not speculations) on your part. Specifically,

  • where do you store your downloaded modules (.vmod files)?
  • what do you do to open VASSAL?
  • what do you do to open a module?

and also

  • which Operating System (OS) do you use? (Windoze, MacOuze, …)
  • which version of VASSAL are you running?

These are the basic that is always needed to diagnose such problems, and you should always volunteer that information from the get-go.

There’s some indication that VASSAL may loose it’s database of know modules, but it could also be an Operating System (OS) related problem. It seems unlikely that it would be an Anti-Virus problem. It is very unlikely that the actual downloaded files have disappeared, though it is possible.

I assume you got the Thunder in the East module from here

Do you know how to search for files on your computer? If you do, then try to search for the file TiTEv1.1.vmod - or just .vmod. If you get results, check that you can actually find the file at the location the search said it was at. I think you will find that the file is indeed on your computer. If it isn’t then its some issue with how the file is stored. For example, if you store the files on some web-drive (e.g., Microsh*t OneDrive) then it could be removed by third-party.

If the file is stored locally on your computer, and in something like Downloads or Trash, consider to move it to something like Documents. Sometimes, specific folders get “special” treatment by the OS.

If you are on Linux, make sure you do not save your modules on some tmpfs mount point - check with

sudo mount

For example, many Linux distributions mount /tmp as a tmpfs file system.

If you still need help, please provide more context, so that people are better equipped to help you out.
