Twilight Struggle, can't deal to other player

I’m playing a game of Twilight Struggle module v1.3 in PBeM, and we just finished Turn 2. There aren’t enough cards left in the draw pile for both of us to draw before a reshuffle. The rules specifically say to deal out all cards before shuffling in the discards. There’s no rule saying this, but to be fair, the remaining cards should be dealt out alternately until the pile is gone. There is an Optional Tournament Rule saying USSR player is dealt first, then USA, then USSR, etc., which I really like.

Here’s the problem. The module doesn’t allow you to deal a card to your opponent. So if we want to do that, we’d have to pass the save file for each draw of the card, let each person draw their own cards. You also can’t really just place the cards on the board, and allow the person to pick up those cards on their turn. Well you can, but whoever is drawing the card sees each card, so that’s not a good solution.

Any ideas?

The best compromise is to divide the remaining number of cards by 2, rounded up, and let the USSR take those, then send the game to the other player to take the remaining cards. In other words, if there are 7 left, let USSR take 4, then the US 3, then refill the draw pile.

If you insist on using the exact tournament rule of alternating draws, then you’d have to send the game after each draw as the module is now.

how can you determine the number of cards left in the draw pile? mousing over doesn’t work, and left clicking only brings up the shuffle option.

v1.3 of the 2nd edition module shows the remaining number of cards left in the draw pile when you press End Turn.

That’s what my opponnent told me too. But here’s the text from the turn I just sent in…

" - Twilight Struggle 2nd ed. version 1.3

  • USA increases US Influence in Spain
  • Spain switches to US Control
  • USA increases US Influence in Italy
  • USA increases US Influence in Italy
  • Italy switches to US Control
  • USA discards Socialist Governments
  • Coup and Realignment attempts are no longer allowed in Europe
  • Coup and Realignment attempts are no longer allowed in Asia
  • Coup and Realignment attempts are now allowed in Middle East
  • Warning! Alert set to Defcon3
  • USA ends the turn
    - no mil ops VP adjust
    - I also didn’t see anything with the draw pile size. You can see the only text it spit out above.
  • USA sends Mid War Deck to Draw Pile
  • USA shuffles Draw Pile
  • USA shuffles Draw Pile
  • USA shuffles Draw Pile"

The only thing that I can think of is that my opponent started the game using v1.2. After the first or second turn I sent him v1.3. Could it be that because he started the game with v1.2 that’s what version it’s stuck in, even though we’re both now playing v1.3?

That is right.

Whatever version a game is initially started with will be the version used throughout. Upgrading a module does not upgrade saved games or log files.
