VASSAL 3.7.2 Released

The Vassal Team is happy to announce the release of Vassal 3.7.2.

IMPORTANT

  • There is now a single universal app bundle for MacOS. It runs natively on both 64-bit x86 (Intel) and 64-bit ARM (Apple Silicon) Macs.
  • Modules saved in 3.7 are not openable by earlier versions of Vassal. We recommend keeping a backup copy of any pre-3.7 modules you plan to modify in 3.7 until you’ve verified that everything works to your satisfaction.
  • Some code deprecated more than a year ago has been removed. Modules containing custom code using that code MUST be updated if they are to work with 3.7.
  • Things may be broken which worked previously. If you find a new bug, please report it.

Minimum Requirements

VASSAL 3.7 requires Java 11 or later.

The Windows and MacOS packages have an appropriate version of Java bundled with them, so there is no need to install Java separately on those operating systems. On Linux, use your package manager to install Java 11 or later.

What does that mean anyway, in layman’s terms?

It means effectively nothing at this point, as the event it refers to happened when 3.6.0 was released back in 2021. I’ll remove that note for the next release.

Back in 2020, we announced that some code would eventually be removed; modules which used any of that in their own custom code would show a warning when they were opened. In 2021, when 3.6.0 was released, we removed that code. By now, presumably anybody affected has dealt with the problem and we no longer need the note.

Does .7.2 change the way action buttons are rendered, or is this a bug? Text-only buttons created in the latest version seem to be inselectable (and unclickable).

What are the steps for reproducing the problem you’re seeing?

I created an At Start stack with text labels and an Action Button, with matching trigger actions – same as I’d done previously. But despite having the Does Not Stack set to allow the text to be selectable, I cannot select it (neither left-click to trigger action nor right-click to show menu) UNLESS I also add an image to the Basic Piece. Then, it all works as expected.

What’s the last version for which the problem doesn’t occur?

Does the problem occur with 3.7.3?
